Age-Related Eyelid Disorders

Upper Eyelid & Brow

Brow and Upper Eyelid Sagging:

The lateral brow descends, causing the upper eyelid skin to slide downward towards the eyelid margin.

Vision Obstruction:

Overlapping skin folds create a significant defect in the field of vision.

Loss of Elasticity (Dermatochalasis):

As skin loses elasticity, it stretches and overlaps with the eyelid margin and eyelashes, further obstructing the field of vision.

Ptosis:

The entire upper eyelid hangs over the eye due to dysfunction in the muscles and tendons of the eyelid elevator within the deep layers, which cannot be corrected by surface surgery.

Lower Eyelid & Structural Changes

Fat Protrusion:

Fat pads typically located between the orbital cavity walls can protrude noticeably if the elastic membranes weaken or the volume of fat increases.

Lower Eyelid Muscle Displacement:

Weakened connective tissue in the lower eyelid allows the orbicularis oculi muscle to slide upward over the eyelid margin, potentially leading to inward eyelash rotation.

Lash Friction (Entropion):

Decreased tension in the ligaments and membranes causes the upper eyelid margin to tilt downward, lowering the lash line and causing lashes to rub against the eye surface.

Ectropion:

Reduced tension in ligaments and membranes causes the eyelid margin to tilt outward, exposing the inner eyelid and the red conjunctiva.

BEFORE & AFTER

Why Choose an Oculoplastic Specialist?

The Importance of Specialized Care

The eyelids are complex structures that protect your vision while defining your facial expression. Correcting age-related eyelid conditions requires an intimate understanding of the delicate balance between eyelid function and aesthetic appearance.

General aesthetic surgery can sometimes overlook the functional needs of the eye, such as tear film stability and eyelid closure. A dedicated oculoplastic approach ensures that your treatment is both safe for your vision and tailored to your unique anatomy.
