Protecting your delicate eyelid tissue during healing is essential. Knowing when and how to safely resume wearing eyeglasses, contact lenses, and cosmetic products ensures beautiful, irritation-free recovery results.
Glasses & Contact Lenses Rules
Follow these strict timelines to avoid pulling on eyelid incisions or introducing bacteria into the healing eye area.
Prescription & Sunglasses
Eyeglasses are safe to wear immediately after surgery as long as the frames do not rest directly on your incision lines.
- Dark Sunglasses: Highly recommended when outdoors to shield sensitive eyes from UV rays, wind, and dust.
- Lightweight Frames: Choose comfortable, lightweight glasses to avoid unnecessary pressure on bruised tissues.
- Hygiene: Clean your eyeglass frames daily with an alcohol wipe to keep the area sterile.
Contact Lenses
Inserting or removing contacts requires pulling on the eyelids, which can stretch delicate suture lines and cause wound separation.
- Wait Time: Avoid contacts for at least 14–21 days post-surgery or until cleared by your surgeon.
- First Insertion: Be extremely gentle; use lubricating drops before inserting contacts to ease placement.
- Daily Disposables: Switch to daily disposable lenses initially to reduce infection risk.
Cosmetics & Eyelid Makeup Protocol
Applying makeup too early can trap bacteria inside healing incisions, leading to infections or dark tattoo-like scar discoloration.
Zero Eye Makeup
Strictly avoid mascara, eyeliner, eyeshadow, and eye creams. Keep incision lines free from any foreign cosmetic particles.
Fresh & Clean Products
Once sutures are removed and incisions fully closed, buy brand new mascara and eyeliner to eliminate old bacterial growth.
Gentle Removal
Use non-irritating, oil-free micellar water. Never rub or pull the eyelids horizontally when taking off cosmetics at night.
You may apply facial moisturizer and SPF to your lower face immediately, but stay 1 inch away from eyelid incisions until cleared.
